Bailey W. Patrick -- 1999
What city are you from?
Native to Charlotte
How did you get started in real estate?
Interviewed with Smoky Bissell and Johnny Harris. Smoky told a funny story
about Bailey bringing his resume into his office and giving to the
receptionist (even though he grew up knowing Smoky). He asked for a pencil
and struck through the “Objective” on his resume (something about his
financial background) and wrote in “interested in real estate."
Brief summary of career:
Joined the Bissell Company in 1984. Started out leasing Bissell Business
Park on I-77. Moved to Greensboro to lease flex space, and find land
opportunities for Bissell. Back in Charlotte, got involved in general
brokerage for land deal, office leasing and joint ventures. In mid 2000’s,
shifted to residential land. In 1997, became President of Bissell Patrick
(ownership in the brokerage firm) then merged with Grubb & Ellis
(Brokerage). Again became Bissell Patrick as a 3rd party brokerage firm
(Subsidiary of the Bissell Companies). End of 2009 bought out Bissell
(kept name for one year) and then merged with Jim Merrifield and became
Merrifield Patrick.
