Robert A. Pressley, CCIM -- 2009Rob Pressley, 2009

What city are you from?
Native to Charlotte

How did you get started in real estate?
Spent summers with his grand dad (Robert Harvey Pressley). Went to work in the family business (after a short career in petroleum) with the redevelopment of Atherton Mill (13 buildings on 6 acres with a lot of contamination issues and remediation). On his first day of work his dad said “Go sign up to be a Realtor.”

Brief summary of career:
My father required a 4-year degree and outside work experience before you could work in the family business. Started career with a petroleum company drawing plans for gas stations and working on contaminated sites. That experience really helped with SouthEnd.

What are you doing today?
Representing 8 banks in the disposition of real estate assets. Still involved in a few active developments – got into the development side about 6 years ago doing fee development for office and retail.

When President, what accomplishment were you most proud of?
Keeping the association profitable in a bad economy/market. Long before serving as president, I started the Marketing Committee with Bill Simerville (has passed away) – the committee was just the two of us. But we created the first logo and established the “brand” for CRCBR. We also created the monthly newsletter. Again before being President – created and lead the first leadership class.

What's your favorite piece of real estate in Charlotte?

Any infill development that spawns economic growth for a neighborhood (Atherton Mill).

What's your favorite Charlotte restaurant, now or then?
Carlo’s on Park Road (now it’s the Red Cross) and now Mr. K’s.

What item would you leave behind to be remembered as Past President? (If they were adding to a time capsule.)
Collection of photos from SouthEnd.

What is something the members of CRCBR may not know about you?
I went to college on an art scholarship (Eastern Carolina) – enjoy charcoals and painting. My art background really helps with envisioning and marketing new projects. I like to focus on unique projects. I’m not interested in corner drugstores. Rob’s grandfather (Robert Harvey Pressley) recorded country music under the label, "MECA" which stands for Michael, Elizabeth, Cheryl and Anthony (his kid’s name). This is what he later named his real estate company. My biggest honor was being president for CRCBR.
