Relatives fight cemetery's rezoning
Residents of one north Charlotte neighborhood are fighting a plan by a
developer to build up to 64 town homes off West Sugar Creek Road in north
Charlotte because they fear the development would spill onto the unmarked
graves they think fall outside the property lines of the abandoned African
American cemetery that dates back to the 1860s.

CATS to anchor office
deal
The city of Charlotte hopes to put the Charlotte Area Transit System in a
mid-scale office building uptown on property it wants to sell to help defray
the cost of the new arena. The dimensions of the building are still a work
in progress, but city officials describe it as being at least six-stories
tall and about 87,000 square feet.

City funds in mix to

Update On The
National Do Not Call Registry's Impact On Realtors®
On June 27, 2003, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) officially launched its
National Do-Not-Call Registry, allowing consumers to limit the telemarketing
calls they receive at home. NAR offers a Field Guide to Anti-Solicitation
and Do-Not-Call Lists at REALTOR.org. The articles, links, and other
material in the guide provide more information on the federal and state laws
and their potential impacts on the real estate industry. Also listed in the
guide are states with Do-Not-Call Laws and Do-Not-Call Web Sites.

Fax Regulation
Starting August 25, new rules issued by the Federal Communications
Commission prohibit sending certain types of faxes to any person or entity
without first obtaining their written consent. These rules apply to any fax
that contains information advertising the commercial availability or quality
of any property, goods or services. The rules apply even if the fax is sent
by a real estate firm to an existing client or by an association to one of
its members, as the new rules eliminated the exemption for existing business
relationships. NCAR is in the process of addressing this issue and its
impact on members and local associations.

research suggests conditions won't change this year. Office vacancies have
hit the highest level since the early 1990s, interest rates are still at a
low point and apartment rental costs are being driven down by high vacancy
rates. [More]
